Rules and Guidelines for the 12 and Under Squad

Rules and Guidelines for the 12 and Under Silver Hill Boys and Girls Club Cheerleading Squad

1. Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated among squad members. Girls must demonstrate respect for their coaches as well as their teammates. A child will be given a verbal warning upon the first instance of disrespectful behavior and their parents will be informed. If the child shows disrespect a second time, they will be given a written notification which must be signed by a parent before they may return. Finally, should there be a third example of behavioral difficulty, the child will be removed from the squad.

2. Attendance is very important in a team sport where members are dependant on each other. All absences must be cleared by a coach in advanced (parents can call my cell, leave a message on my work phone or send an email/Emergencies excluded). If a member misses 3 or more practices in one month, she will be asked to sit out of the next upcoming game. If a member has more than 3 unexcused absences during the months of October or November, they will not be allowed to participate in the competition.

3. All squad members must be willing to make a commitment to fully prepare for the competition which includes practicing cheers and dances at home as well as stretching and working on jumps at home. No one is guaranteed to go to competition. If someone is not prepared for competition, they will not compete.

4. Members must come prepared to every practice. The dress code includes no jewelry, pliable clothes (no jeans, skirts, etc) and proper shoes (hard soled tennis shoes with laces).

5. Members are responsible to obtain all required pieces of the Uniform by their respective deadlines. I agree to abide by the aforementioned guidelines.

Welcome to the Silver Hill Boys and Girls Club 2007 Cheerleading Year!

I am very excited about the upcoming season and look forward to working with each of you. Here are a few important issues, dates, and deadlines you should be aware of:

Practices will be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays beginning August 6, 2007 at the Blue House (5011 Abbott Drive Temple Hills, MD).

In September, our practices will be held at the Benjamin Stoddert Middle School gym. The school is located at 2501 Olson Street in Temple Hills, Maryland.

The deadline for the Joe Corbis fundraiser is Tuesday, September 4, 2007. I am asking that each member sells at least 5 items to pay for their competition registration. Any proceeds above $26 dollars will be returned to the parent to use as they wish (snack fee, practice uniforms, reimbursement of registration fee, or shoes). Each item (pizza, cookie dough) generally yields a $5 to $6 profit.

There will be additional fundraisers throughout the year to help parents with reimbursement, as well as to fund our annual banquet, trophies, and gifts.

Each member is responsible to pay $10 dollars for water, snacks and refreshments for the season due September 13, 2007.

· Girls must submit $22 by September 13, 2007. (This price includes a practice uniform, socks, and gym bag). (If you would like to participate in a fundraiser to raise the funds, see Coach Summer).
o If you’re child is a new squad member, she must also purchase a warm up suit which will be worn again next year. The total cost, including practice uniform and gym bag will be $72 due by September 13, 2007.

· Football games are every Saturday beginning September 15, 2007 and the times and locations will vary. Girls will need white tennis shoes (styles may vary) and RED bloomers (which can be purchased at Modell’s, dance stores, and many sporting good stores).

· Girls are responsible for purchasing their competition shoes by October 19, 2006 and they are approximately $20.

· We will be attending a Cheerleading Skills and Safety Clinic @ Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex, Landover, MD on Sunday, October 14, 2007 from 12:30-4:30 pm. Exact meeting time TBD.

· On Sunday, November 4, 2007 the Annual Competition will be at The University of Maryland, Cole Field House, College Park, MD

· On November 10, 2007, we will be performing in the All Capital Spirit Championship at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, MD. Registration is $26.00 per girl (which can be supplemented through the Joe Corbi fundraiser) and the money for the competition is due by September 20, 2007.

· On Saturday, December 8, 2007, we will be participating in the Christmas Classic in Baltimore, MD. Registration is free and more details will be provided in the future.

I’m sure that we will have a great season with the help and support of the participants and their families. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
